PTBA continues to strive toward its vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. In alignment with the Indonesian government's target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060, PTBA is actively accelerating its transition to green energy and strengthening its contribution to support Indonesia’s energy security.
PTBA’s transformation extends beyond business and technological aspects. The company remains committed to provide more contributions to society, environment, and the nation through various sustainable initiatives. One key effort is its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, which focus on enhancing the quality of life in surrounding communities, promoting responsible environmental management, and fostering economic opportunities across various sectors.
PTBA’s 44-year journey is thoughtfully captured in a book titled "Titik Balik dari Sejarah Menuju Masa Depan (Turning Point From History to the Future)”, launched during the peak celebration of PTBA’s 44th Anniversary at Tanah Putih Multipurpose Building (GSG), Tanjung Enim, on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Arsal Ismail, President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), stated that the book was compiled to highlight the core values that have become the foundation of the company’s success, while also illustrating how PTBA has continuously adapted to the evolving times.
"Through this book, we want to share with readers about how to navigate the challenges in the mining industry that keeps growing and to realize the vision of becoming a company that not only prioritizes performance, but also plays an active role in maintaining environmental sustainability and create a positive impact on the progression of our society,” said Arsal.
He added that the book "Titik Balik dari Sejarah Menuju Masa Depan" also highlights PTBA’s contributions to the energy sector—both through the responsible management of natural resources and its role in supporting Indonesia’s economic development.
"We hope this book would be useful for all stakeholders, as part of our collective effort to realize Sustainable Energy for Indonesia, aligned with energy self-sufficiency goals outlined in the government’s Asta Cita," he said.
Maroef Sjamsoeddin, President Director of the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, stated on the same occasion that PTBA currently manages a total of 5.8 billion tons of coal resources, with extractable reserves amounting to 2.9 billion tons.
This underscores PTBA’s potential to drive the realization of energy self-sufficiency, to support the strengthening of Indonesia’s economic performance.
The large reserves also position PTBA to diversify its downstream products, supporting industrialization driven by Indonesia’s natural resources. These efforts align with the mandate given to the MIND ID Group and President Prabowo’s Asta Cita vision.
"Hopefully Bukit Asam would continue to uphold the mandate given consistently, and I am optimistic that the company will keep contributing to the nation for the next 100 years," he said.
Cik Ujang, Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, expressed his appreciation to PTBA for its significant contributions to improving the welfare of the people of South Sumatra.
"On behalf of myself and the South Sumatra Provincial Government, I would like to wish Bukit Asam a happy 44th anniversary. Bukit Asam has made significant contributions in areas of health, education, agriculture, and community development and empowerment. I wish Bukit Asam would continue to be more successful and more competitive at the national and global levels," said Cik Ujang.
The peak event of PTBA’s 44th anniversary, themed “Realigning, Igniting Change,” was also attended by H. Bursah Zarnubi - Regent of Lahat, Sumarni - Deputy Regent of Muara Enim, the board of directors and commissioners of PTBA, the board of directors and commissioners of MIND ID, the board of directors of PT KAI, and other key stakeholders.
Launch of the Movie "Maria, Women from the East"
In addition to the launch of the book "Titik Balik dari Sejarah Menuju Masa Depan," the highlight of PTBA’s 44th anniversary also featured the premiere of the movie "Maria, Women from the East." The movie tells the inspiring story of Maria, a talented young woman from Papua, who, driven by a strong determination, journeys far from her homeland to build a career at PTBA.
Throughout her journey, Maria encountered one challenge after another, tested by time, environment, and uncertainty. However, her spirit never wavered. She rose, grew stronger, and proved that with perseverance, courage, and the support of her friends, the path to realizing one's dreams is always within reach.
“This movie is not just a show, but a heartfelt story. It’s an inspiring movie filled with passion, hope, struggle, and the belief that every small step toward a dream is a significant step toward change,” said Arsal Ismail.
The gala premiere of the movie "Maria, Women from the East" will take place on Monday, May 14, 2025 and later be available for viewing on PT Bukit Asam Tbk's YouTube channel.
PTBA Enhances Klawas Waterpark Facilities to Support Tanjung Enim Tourist City
Since 2016, PTBA in collaboration with the Muara Enim Regency Government has launched the Tanjung Enim Tourist City Program. The initiative aims to transform Tanjung Enim, a coal mining area, into a sustainable tourist destination with long-term independence.
Therefore, PTBA is continuously developing various facilities and infrastructure to transform Tanjung Enim into a tourist city. One of the new tourist destinations being built is the Klawas Waterpark.
PTBA has completed the construction of Klawas Waterpark Phase 2, which began on March 18, 2024. There are a range of new facilities and attractions, including a current pool, children’s pool, boomerang slide, training pool, multislides, and ride pool. The inauguration of Klawas Waterpark Phase 2 took place on Friday, April 11, 2025, as part of the peak events celebrating PTBA's 44th anniversary.
Arsal Ismail expressed his hope that Klawas Waterpark would become a new tourist destination that contributes to improving the local community’s standard of living through the tourism sector.
“The development of Klawas Waterpark Phase 2 aligns with PTBA’s commitment to its sustainability vision, particularly in sustainable communities and environmental management. We hope this facility would increase the growth in Tanjung Enim tourism sector, in line with our shared goal of transforming the area into a tourist city,” said Arsal.
Klawas Waterpark was built on a 3,200 m⊃2; area. In 2024, it attracted a total of 58,689 visitors, with an average 4,891 number of visitors monthly.
The development of Klawas Waterpark has created employment opportunities for the local community, with all staff recruited from Tanjung Enim. In addition, the site features MSME stands that support local culinary businesses.
Maroef Sjamsoeddin emphasized that environmental restoration following mining activities is an obligation for all mining players in Indonesia.
As an extension of the state that actively supports President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision, the MIND ID Group consistently drives post-mining environmental improvement programs, complemented by a range of innovative programs.
These programs offer added value in the areas of culture, education, and community welfare, aiming to create a livable and sustainable environment for future generations.
“We understand that mining will not last forever. One day, this area will be returned to the community. That’s why we are committed to leaving behind a legacy of civilization, education, culture, welfare, and a livable environment for future generations,” he said.
Sumarni, Deputy Regent of Muara Enim, on this occasion expressed her hope that the tourism sector will become a new source of economic growth for Muara Enim in the future.
“The Muara Enim Regency Government extends its highest appreciation to PTBA. Tanjung Enim not only holds valuable natural resources but is also being developed into a tourist city that will contribute significantly to Regional Original Income (PAD),” she said.
The transformation of Tanjung Enim into a tourist city aligns with the priority programs of the Muara Enim Regency Government. “One of our key priorities is the development of tourist destinations. Without the APBD, we have received exceptional support from PTBA. This will further improve the economy of Muara Enim,” said Sumarni.
