PTBA Operates Five Electric Buses for Tarahan Port

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the MIND ID group, has started to operate five electric buses for employee shuttle at Tarahan Port since January 1, 2023, in addition to 10 other buses at the Tanjung Enim Mining Unit.

In line with PTBA's vision of becoming a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment, the Company will increasingly use electric vehicles as a measure to reduce carbon emissions, which is estimated to reach 16 tons of CO2/year/bus. The use of electric buses also reduces fuel oil use up to 9,672 liters/year/bus.

"PTBA strives to carry out sustainable business practices to be able to contribute optimally to society. We continue to develop decarbonization programs to support the Government's target of achieving Net Zero Emissions in 2060. The use of electric buses is one of the efforts to achieve this target," said PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail.

PTBA Tarahan Port Unit received the Gold category in the 2022 Company Performance Rating Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) for three consecutive years. Gold PROPER is the highest award given to companies that are proven to implement a good environmental management system, including the implementation of energy efficiency, emission reduction, water efficiency and reduction of water pollution load, reduction and utilization of hazardous and toxic waste, reduction and utilization of non-hazardous and toxic waste, and biodiversity preservation.

In addition to electric buses, Tarahan Port Unit carries out energy efficiency through modification of the operational starting sequence system for stockpile-1 to shipholder-2 lines, water efficiency through reducing operational water using dust retardant liquid, reducing emissions through reengineering a rotary car dumper from a single dumper to double dumpers, processing hazardous and toxic waste through recovery lubricant using a welter purification system, processing hazardous and toxic solid waste in the form of 38.9 tons oil waste, reduction and utilization of 13.2 tons inorganic non-hazardous and toxic waste, and a bamboo nursery which in 2022 will be able to produce 3,14 biodiversity.

PTBA's operational management in environmental issues is in accordance with international standards or ISO 14001:2015 Environment certification held by the Company.
