The implementation of a OHS culture is aligned with PTBA’s vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares for the environment. Mining activities can be carried out effectively and safely thanks to the consistent application of the OHS culture.
“OHS culture is part of the good mining practice principles that we always implement. This is crucial in supporting the company’s business and protecting our employees. With a strong OHS culture, Bukit Asam can provide Non-stop Energy for the nation,” said Suhedi, Director of Operations & Production at PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA).
Various efforts are made by PTBA to enhance the OHS culture. The Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SMK3), the Mining Safety Management System (SMKP), and ISO 45001:2018 standards serve as guidelines for the company in managing mining safety.
The Golden Rules principle is highly upheld to ensure that health and safety in the workplace are maintained. The Golden Rules consist of fundamental regulations that all employees must follow to guarantee health and safety. A number of SHE (Safety, Health, & Environment) Agents closely supervise K3 compliance at each work location.
To mitigate high risks while performing tasks, the company has issued Circular Letters authorizing every employee and business partner to delay or temporarily halt their own or others' work if dangerous conditions that could jeopardize safety are identified.
“PTBA also utilizes business process digitalization to strengthen OHS. The CISEA (Corporate Information System & Enterprise Application) - SiP (SHE is Priority) application developed by the company features Hazard Report, SHE News, SHE Pedia, SHE Tutor, SHE Maps, and Mine Permit,” Suhedi explained.
The physical and mental health of employees is also maintained through various programs, including counseling services, the Fun Walk Challenge With Partner 72 KM each month, healthy exercise routines, Berchanda (Brave to Check Health and Free Consultation for Employees), and medical treatment at clinics or hospitals.
Furthermore, PTBA regularly tests the feasibility of production facilities and enhances their readiness through standardization or certification. "These policies are implemented to ensure the safety and security of employees while working," he concluded.
