Bukit Asam's Three Strategies in Becoming a World Class Energy and Chemical Company Jakarta, December 1, 2022 - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of SOE mining holding MIND ID, establishes three strategies to realize its vision of becoming an energy and chemical company that cares about the environment.

The transformation taken is to support the Net Zero Emission target in 2060 as directed by President Joko Widodo, and to increase contribution in supporting national energy security.

The three strategies include:
First, increasing the portfolio of new and renewable energy-based power plants (NRE). PTBA has built a solar power plant at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in collaboration with PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero). PTBA also collaborates with Jasa Marga Group for the development of solar power plant on toll roads and explores the potential for cooperation in the development of solar power plant at the operational locations of the Semen Indonesia Group (SIG).

"PTBA decided to have business diversification in anticipation that NRE will increasingly competitive over fossil energy in the future. With technological developments, NRE will be more efficient," said PTBA President Director, Arsal Ismail.

Second, coal downstream and chemical industry development by building special economic zone in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, as an area for business development. As a commitment to the Presidential Decree Number 109 of 2020 signed on November 17, 2020 by President Joko Widodo, PTBA will convert Coal into DME (Dimethyl Ether) for its downstream project.

"This is a new portfolio for our company, we no longer just selling coal but also starting to enter downstream products to increase added value," said Arsal.

Third, the Carbon Management Program, which integrates carbon reduction targets in mining operations. PTBA has a series of programs to reduce carbon emissions, from replacing mining equipment that uses fossil fuels with electricity, implementing production reporting system in real time and online, to reclamation for restoring ex-mining land.

"PTBA is undergoing transformation to face future challenges. With these strategies, the company is optimistic to be able to become a sustainable company and continue to contribute to national energy security," said Arsal.
