Bukit Asam to Develop Solar Power Plant at GIS Factory Area

Bali, October 18, 2022 – As commitment to support the reduction of global carbon emissions, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) and PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) are exploring the potential for cooperation in the development of Solar Power Plants at SIG operational locations.

This cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Development of New Renewable Energy (NRE) for Solar Power Plants by PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail and SIG President Director Donny Arsal, witnessed by Deputy Minister of SOE I Pahala Nugraha Mansury at the SOE International event Conference 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. Director of Business & Marketing of SIG Aulia Mulki Oemar and Director of Business Development of PTBA Rafli Yandra also attended the event.

This synergy is a form of SOEs collaboration in supporting the government to achieve the Net Zero Emission target by 2060 or earlier. PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail hopes that this synergy can have a positive impact on all parties. This collaboration is also way of PTBA's transformation into a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment.

“PTBA is increasingly expanding into the new and renewable energy (NRE) sector. With the company's sustainable business, PTBA is expected to continue to support national energy security," said Arsal Ismail.

According to the President Director of SIG Donny Arsal, SIG believes that sustainable business practices not only have a positive impact on nature conservation but can also provide economic benefits and build a competitive advantage for GIS in the market. This encourages GIS to use new and renewable energy (NRE) for sustainable growth through solar power use.

“The development of solar power plant at the PT Semen Padang factory in collaboration with Bukit Asam is in line with SIG's Sustainability Initiatives to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Beyond merely profit, GIS aspires to be a building materials industry that empowers stakeholders in creating sustainable lives in the future,” said Donny Arsal.

PTBA through its subsidiary, PT Bukit Energi Investama (BEI) will build solar power plant to support the operational activities of PT Semen Padang factory, a subsidiary of GIS. The plan for the construction of solar power plant includes solar power Rooftop and solar power Ground Mounted, which are targeted to operate commercially (Commercial Operation Date/COD) in 2023 - 2024.

Electricity from the solar power plant will be used for production operations, lighting and offices, expected to contribute to reducing emissions and energy costs.
