PT Bukit Asam Tbk and PT Pertamina (Persero) signed a coal downstreaming agreement (coal converted into methanol). This agreement was signed by the Managing Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk, Arviyan Arifin and the Managing Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati at the Ministry of BUMN, witnessed by the Minister of BUMN, Erick Thohir, Friday (20/3).
Through this collaboration, Bukit Asam would process low calorie coal into Methanol at its mining area and then supply 1 million tons of Methanol per year to Pertamina for Gasoline A20 program.
The downstream production was planned to begin in the mid to late 2024. Meanwhile, Bukit Asam and Pertamina would conduct a joint study on project development and feasibility study. The downstreaming coal into Methanol project would support the government's program to reduce imports of gasoline or premium fuel.
