Bukit Asam 42nd Anniversary, the Momentum to Raise Beyond the Limits
March 02, 2023
"Raise Beyond The Limits means that PTBA must be able to go beyond existing boundaries, leave the comfortable business paradigm that only focuses on existing business. Now is the time for PTBA to have breakthroughs to be able to achieve PTBA's vision in the long term through the transformation efforts that we are currently carrying out," said PTBA President Director, Arsal Ismail.
Arsal said that year 2023 would be full of challenges and opportunities. With changes happen very quickly, the global uncertainty, world geopolitical conditions, technological developments, and environmental issues need to be anticipated.
He hopes that all Bukit Asam personnel will be more solid and resilient in adapting to new challenges, collaborating to maximize every available opportunity, bringing PTBA to raise beyond limits.
"We should not be complacent with PTBA's current condition. Even though 2022 was quite an exciting year for all of us, let's not be off guard. I would always remind you that our challenges ahead will even be harder and we still need to increase our business resilience," he said.
For that reason, Bukit Asam employees must focus on carrying out the transformation, from coal downstream, accelerating the monetization of coal reserves and resources, developing new and renewable energy, to carbon management.
"PTBA will no longer be a company that only focuses on coal sales but beyond. We will enter a completely different business such as coal downstream, new and renewable energy, as well as carbon management," he said.
Positive Achievements
Bukit Asam 42nd Anniversary was marked by a number of positive achievements. Per Quarter III of 2022, the Company managed to record a net profit of IDR 10.0 trillion, the highest record in the history of Bukit Asam.
Bukit Asam continues to transform and diversify its business to face future challenges. One of the programs is the downstreaming of Coal to DME. As a new energy source that is more environmentally friendly, the implementation of DME will also reduce LPG imports and improve Indonesia's trade balance.
In addition, Bukit Asam has a number of ex-mining lands that can be utilized for the development of solar power plants, such as the Ombilin in West Sumatra covering an area of 201 hectares and in Tanjung Enim covering an area of 224 hectares, each of which has the potential of 200 Megawatts (MW), also in Bantuas post-mining area of 30 hectares in East Kalimantan with a potential of 30 MW.
Recently, Bukit Asam is also exploring the potential for cooperation in solar power plants development at the operational locations of Semen Indonesia Group (SIG), PT Timah Tbk, and the Jasa Marga Group toll roads, and wind power plant development with China Huadian Corporation (CHD).
"I would like to send my highest gratitude and appreciation to all PTBA personnel in all work area units, partners, and stakeholders for your support and contribution in PTBA accomplishment and future success. This achievement to date was not an individual result, but the result of entire team work that has successfully led PTBA to where it is today," he said.
