Muara Enim, November 2, 2022 - To improve the quality of basic education, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) organized a hybrid Mathematics Learning Festival.The event’s opening was held at the Tanah Putih new multipurpose building, Tanjung Enim on Wednesday, November 11, 2022, attended by the Head of the Muara Enim District Education and Culture Office, Irawan Supmidi, VP Sustainability PTBA Hartono, Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas Foundation (PENGINCER) Chairman Sururi Azis and teachers.
Offline sessions were held at the PTBA Head Office in Muara Enim Regency and the Gernas Tastaka Office. Participants from 30 districts and cities took part online.
The Mathematics Learning Festival was an event to disseminate the National Movement for the Elimination of Illiteracy in Mathematics (Gernas Tastaka), synergistically carried out by the Education and Culture Office of Muara Enim Regency, the Nusantara Utama Cita Association (NU Circle) and PTBA.
In the 2021-2022 period, Gernas Tastaka had conducted training and mentoring for 160 national elementary school and Islamic elementary school teachers in Muara Enim Regency. This program focused on developing the capability of teachers at the elementary school level to understand basic mathematical concepts.
The Head of the Muara Enim District Education and Culture Office, Irawan Supmidi, in his remarks expressed his gratitude to PTBA for supporting the efforts to improve the quality of basic education in Muara Enim District.
"We would like to send our gratitude for the great support from PTBA for this program, activity and innovation that can help broaden our self-knowledge," he said.
Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas (PENGINCER) Foundation Chairman Sururi Azis believed that Gernas Tastaka had succeeded in increasing the mathematics competence of elementary school teachers in Muara Enim Regency.
"At Gernas Tastaka the teachers do not learn about theory. Theory is indeed important to guide you to the right path, but it is appropriate to understand the practices in everyday life," said Sururi.
PTBA VP Sustainability Hartono on the same occasion gave his appreciation to the teachers who played an active role in the success of Gernas Tastaka.
"We hope that this program can become a sustainable program. You can share the knowledge to fellow teachers. Next year, Gernas Tastaka will be held in Lahat Regency. Hopefully PTBA will always be able to give the best for the people of Muara Enim Regency," he said.
In education sector, besides Gernas Tastaka, PTBA has scholarship programs for children from underprivileged families. Ayo Sekolah Program distributes scholarship for basic level students and Beasiswa Sekitar PT Bukit Asam Tbk (Bidiksiba) or Scholarship Program Around PT Bukit Asam Tbk is granted to high school graduates or equivalent to continue their education to higher institutions.
