PTBA’s  production director Milawarma,  said the paradigm that mining activity would be damaging to the environment had to be abandoned.

He said paradigm must be changed with the concept of green mining, which essentially combines the concept of mining activities with environmental preservation.

According to Milawarma, from 66.414 hectares of mining rights of PTBA, the company has exploited  4.454 ha.
From the land that has been exploited, Bukit Asam has reclamated and revegetated 1.986 hectares of land or 45% progress.

In the year 2043, continued Milawarma, the total land to be reclaimed is targeted to 5.394 hectares of PTBA. This wide land will turn into forest park as well as a new nationally scaled tourist center.

The Corporate Secretary of PTBA Achmad Sudarto explains, the forest park will include 12 zones, which includes livestock and fisheries zone, tourism zone, water park zone, forest zone, camping sites, productive research zone as well as fruit garden zone.

Reserve Capital
To realize the development of people's forest park, PTBA has prepared a reserve derived from coal sales at Rp 4.082 for every ton of coal sold.

“This reserve capital is really prepared for the preservation of environment and to realize the people's forest park. It cannot be used for any other purpose.” Achmad stated.

Milawarna and Achmad added, PTBA's commitment to realize People's Forest Park will not change midway even if there are any management changes.

This is because the development of People's Forest Park with the area of 5.394 ha in the concession of Bukit Asam is under legal force that was mandated in the local government district of Muara Enim in subject to People's Forest Park.

PTBA also affirms their commitment to be proactive in tackling natural disasters that recently often happens in Indonesia, especially in the island of Sumatra.
This commitment is outlined in an agreement of South Sumatra Disaster Ready for Industrial based that was signed by PTBA's CEO Sukrisno with the Governor of South Sumatra Alex Nurdin in Tanjung Enim, Sunday (18/7)
