COAL HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION

Tanjung Enim

PTBA operates three stockpiles in the Tanjung Enim Mining Unit. Each stockpile is equipped with feed breakers and associated conveying system with a capacity of 1,500 – 1,700 tons per hour (tph) and coal train-loader station with a capacity of 2,000 – 2,800 cubic meter per hour.

The first stockpile stored coal form Air Laya and Muara Tiga Besar mining unit. The second stockpile stored coal only from Muara Tiga Besar mining unit. Meanwhile, another stockpile stored coal from Banko Barat mining unit.

A portion of coal at Air Laya stockpile is transported through a conveyor to Bukit Asam Power Plant.

Coal from the stockpile is transported via train to port. PTBA has a long-term contract with state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia to transport coal to Tarahan Coal Terminal in Lampung or Kertapati Port in Palembang. The Tarahan Coal Terminal is 410 km from Tanjung Enim to Lampung and the Kertapati Port is 190 km from Tanjung Enim to Palembang.

The train to Tarahan Coal Terminal consist of 46 wagons with a capacity of 50 tons each, while the train to Kertapati Port consists of 35 wagons with a capacity of 30 ton each. At Tarahan Coal Terminal and Kertapati Port, PTBA also has stockpile equipped with a ship loader.

Ombilin

Coal extracted from the ombilin mine is screened and crushed before being delivered to the Ombilin Power Station, or an adjacent rail yard for delivery to a cement company in Padang, West Sumatera, or Teluk Bayur Port.

Coal transported over the Ombilin rail line has been old for upon delivery to the rail yard. The Ombilin rail line delivers coal 155 km away to the Padang Cement Factory and the Teluk Bayur Coal Terminal.

Tarahan Coal Terminal

Most of the coal is shipped from Tarahan Coal Terminal. Fully owned and operated by PTBA, this world class facility is located at Bandar Lampung, approximately 410 km by rail from the Tanjung Enim mine site.

To support heightened activities at coal handling and transporting area, PTBA is currently upgrading the capacity of Tarahan Port through the construction of new jetty that can accommodate a cape size vessel. The capacity will increase around to 25 million tons per year from 12 million tons per year.
